Happy New Year

We started out 2009 by taking a snowmobile ride from our house to Rum River State Forest.

We came across a recently-built shelter in the Rum River State Forest. It had all the amenities: fireplace & firewood, condiments, instant coffee and coffee pot, board games and coloring books for the kids, and even a few pans of Jiffy Pop. Pretty darn cool.

Below is a photo of Page 1 of the guest book/journal:

I uploaded the GPS tracks from our ride onto Google Earth. Total distance = 132 miles; Counties traversed (in chronological order): Sherburne, Benton, Morrison, Mille Lacs, Kanebec, Isanti

Where The Hell Did That Come From?

Today's Photo:

My first ride for the '08-'09 snowmobile season. Taken near Santiago. The trail wasn't bad, but there were a few bald spots due to the 40+ degree temps we had last Friday.

...which reminds me: The photo above was taken with my cell phone, and while browsing the memory stick I stumbled across some pics I took of a ten-speed bike parked behind an outhouse in Genola last Thanksgiving. At first glance, it doesn't look like a photo-worthy bike, but the brand name is what caught my attention. (As always, click on photos to enlarge.)

It was in surprisingly good condition for its age, and the classic rear disc brake was pretty cool too. It was unlocked and unattended; anyplace else, this would've been stolen and promptly sold on e-bay as a collector's item.

RIP: Paul Benedict

http://briefwindow.blogspot.com/2008/12/paul-benedict-1938-2008.html

I don't know why I never made the connection between Bentley from The Jeffersons and Sesame Street's Mad Painter until now, but I clearly remember when he painted the number 4 on that lady's umbrella. Ah yes, those were good times.
